Designed by Panorama Design Group, Forkid’s Club in Shenzhen, China, is a play haven for a new generation of parents and children to break away from busy city life and enter an imaginative parent-child world. The space integrates playing, learning, dining and socialising, based on the design concept of a “valley of dreams”.

Situated in an independent building in Shenzhen Nanshan Park, the club’s double-height volume enables newly built mezzanine levels to add height and a sense of play as children explore this space.

The interior is dressed with generous curves to soften the space and offer visual connectivity to tie different activity zones located in the three levels.
Mirroring the curves, an abstract landscape outlining a valley’s seasonal changes further provokes a child’s imagination. Attention is paid to colours, shapes, scales and tactility to fulfil functional and emotional requirements of a playscape and provide a memorable experience for children and parents.
The first zone in green houses a ticketing area and family café, featuring structures that mimic undulating hills to denote the beauty of spring. A statement tree-like observatory tower in the centre provides children with a bird’s eye view of the entire space. They are within sight of their parents in the family café, where food and refreshment are provided. Myriad activities including children’s birthday parties and social events can be held. A full-height flora wall completes the evocative look of the interior.

The second zone in yellow is a beach-like open area that features multiple ball pools and climbing ropes, complete with mezzanine levels connected with cocoon bridges. This playscape uses materials including rubber and plastic to provide children with a multi-tactile experience.

The third zone features a floating leaf structure in orange to house rope arrays and trampolines. Children can indulge in hide-and-seek in this semi-enclosed space and simply let their hair down.

The fourth zone consists of an open theatre and an enclosed cave. These two multipurpose spaces are clad in grey on the upper level. Both serve as quiet corners and are equipped with interactive digital projections on the floor and ceiling to provide children with an immersive experience when engaged in various learning activities.

The ceiling features many convex mirrors that bounce light on adjacent distorted mirror walls, enabling a play of light that adds visual impact. Here, 3D cartoon figures bring the area to life and complement the brand narrative.
