Nampa House
Nampa House is a restaurant built on the traditions of a noble family passed down for over 200 years. Designer Sangyoon Kim of Listen Communication drew inspiration from the natural surroundings of Nampa House's old house and household items. Naju, where Nampa House is located, is renowned for traditional crafts such as weaving, woodworking, dyeing, and basketry. These traditional characteristics of the region are reflected in the design. For example, a translucent curtain resembling woven hemp divides the hall from the surrounding space, allowing for psychological connection with the surrounding space while ensuring privacy.
The overall design of the hall aims to bring nature into the interior. Nature-inspired objects evoke the rocky and mountainous landscapes, as well as birds resting by the stream near Nampa House.
The colors of the space are inspired by the earth and wood of Nampa House's walls, and the dark pillars in the center of the hall reflect the aging and decay of the house's structure.
Part of the wall is adorned with a wood fire, a traditional method of cooking food over an open fire. By connecting elements of the past with present sensibilities, the designer created a space where past and future coexist.
