Red Dot Award: Designers Celebrate at the Award Ceremony in Singapore

October 19, 2022

Design concepts being awarded the Red Dot is akin to obtaining a quality seal for design that sets them apart from the rest in the field. Only the best 7% of submitted entries by companies, design studios, research institutions and designers were being recognised for their design merit by the Red Dot Jury this year.

“Red Dot Award for Design Concept is one of the toughest design awards that one can win in the world today.” Asia President of Red Dot, Ken Koo reveals . “The challenge is not just in the odds of winning, but also in the high quality of the competing design projects that are assessed on a fair platform.”

Creating the Future: A Better Future

“To think innovatively and remain forward-looking in persistent times — to still be in motion — is truly a special skill. Taking the best of today to make the best out of tomorrow is the real magic behind creating a design concept with added value,” explains Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot. “In the Red Dot Award: Design Concept, we are looking for design concepts that aim to shape a better tomorrow. We are looking for inventive designers, clever ideas and extraordinary solutions to create something new — something extraordinary.”

Top five outstanding Red Dot: Best of the Best design concepts have been nominated for the Red Dot: Luminary, the highest level of recognition accorded at the Red Dot Award: Design Concept. The five exceptional nominees include Bitboard, an electronic musical instrument designed for music creators, challenges stereotypes and opens up new possibilities for musical instruments by Shin Chen; Terracotta Valley Wind, a terracotta evaporative cooling system designed to cool subway stations by Guo Chenkai, Lyu Yilei, Sheng Baohua and Zhang Yu; +CLOCK, a clock, but also functions as an automatic pill dispenser on a regular basis by Ju Chan Ho; Dual EXtendable (DEX), a powerful and robust collaborative robot designed to navigate the factories of the future by Schaeffler, and Trailer Drone, a unique and innovative future mobility solution that combines fuel cells, trucks, trailers and robots on a single platform by Hyundai Motor Company.

Winning designers from around the world travelled to Singapore once again on the 27 September to celebrate their achievements at the Award Ceremony. Since its inception in 2005, the Red Dot Award: Design Concept began as an outlet for design teams and designers to showcase their latest research without customer constraints. Today, it has matured into the largest and most prestigious international award for design concepts at a professional level.
