Singapore: SIDAC Launches New Programmes to Mentor Local Interior Designers

August 15, 2022

The Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Council (SIDAC) was recently joined by Minister-of-State for Trade & Industry Low Yen Ling at the National Design Centre to officially launch its Mentorship Programme and present the first cohort of 22 mentors with their appointment certificates. The event also marked the beginning of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme, aimed at encouraging interior designs to continue honing their skills and knowledge.

“We’re thrilled to officially launch these two programmes,” said Prof. Keat Ong, Chairman of SIDAC. “They are the first steps to improving the standards of the interior design profession and industry in Singapore by nurturing and guiding the new generation of interior designers.”

The Mentorship Programme is directed at guiding the youth and future generations of the interior design industry. Through the programme, participating designers will be assigned to a mentor and given guidance on the tools and skills they will need to start mapping and planning out their careers, as well as opportunities to build connections in the industry. For mentors, the programme allows them to contribute to the interior design community and lets them form rapports with emerging designers in a way that provides access to up-and-coming talent and new ideas.

Two mentees will be taken from the pool of Registered Accreditation Interior Design Candidates and assigned to mentors for guidance. The mentor will guide the candidate, and report to the accreditation council periodically on the progress and assessment of their mentee.

The CPD Programme is an important part in improving the standards of the interior design profession in Singapore. The programme ensures that all accredited interior designers strive to remain up to date on the best industry practices, regulatory developments as well as develop new skills that are important in this rapidly changing industry. Accredited interior designers are required to accumulate 20 CPD points through participation in related industry events, courses, seminars by the end of an annual CPD cycle to maintain their accreditation status.
